today was my first day at the new job. interesting to say the least. first of all, today was the first day in the next noreaster... the big storm we're supposed to get. so everything was supposed to start around noon. well, i go to work anyway, i get there around 7:45 and the parking lot is empty, but i dont think much of it... maybe everyone piles in at 10 of, right? so i get inside and some guy behind the desk (not the usual secretary erin) tells me to go ahead and fill out the paperwork that i need to and then i can go home, he'll call me at 9:30 and let me know about work today because everyone's coming in a 10. so i go home and watch the end of league of their own with my mom and then he calls and tells me to come in. so i do. and i get paired with this girl named kate to train me. well, dave (the prez) told people that they could pair up and go to each others territories if they're closer than their own. so kate and i decide we'll go out with this guy ryan whose territory is near by. and then this guy brad decides to tag along as well. kate tells me that i'll be training to represent quill, which is an office supplies company (completely catalogue based and only for businesses, so you've probably never heard of it). basically it's the mother store of all office supply stores. they get their stuff direct from the manufacturers and then in turn sell supplies for discounted prices (one of the many office supply stores that quill supplies is staples... generally speaking, staples sells products for approx. $5-10 more than quill). ANYWAY, so we go out in this territory and try to sell this stuff. after the first business, kate tells me that i can go ahead and do the intro - basically introducing myself and asking to be introduced to the person in charge of ordering office supplies. well, after the first store, she was like "omg, you did SO good... my first day i would just say hi and then be completely dumbfounded" haha. so all day she kept telling me that i did so good, blah blah blah - which is really good, so hopefully that means i'll be good at this job. hopefully. haha. anyway, we went around for a little while but then we got a call to come back to the office because the snow was getting so bad. and it was really starting to get slippery where we were, so i was glad. but anyway, we headed back to the office and i was able to leave by around 2, haha. good first day! at least i didn't get all worn out. haha.

anyway, i found out that i only get supplemental insurance through this place. so i'm not really sure what that means. i also work on commission. i didn't get the chance to ask about that though, so i'm not sure how exactly it works. i dont know if i get a base salary and then get commission on top of that, or if i just get straight commission... but either way, i should be making more than my old job. and i'll get paid every friday, which is nice. but i'll have to wait 2 weeks for my first pay check, but that's ok. so i guess i'll see in two weeks if i make a base salary, huh? this shall be interesting. i have to find out the policy on taking time off too. like vacations and what-not. we'll see. we'll see.

other than that, there isn't much to say. i'll keep learning about the new job. we'll see how that goes. should be fun though. i'm still excited about it.
